Voting Initiatives
Article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights protects the right of everyone to participate in the government of their country, to express their will through free and fair elections, and to have equal access to public services.
The Human Rights Lab co-hosted a voting rights event, “Explore the History of Voter Suppression,” with the Ford Institute, AAUW, NAACP, and Operation X-Albion on September 27th, 2022. The event highlighted that your vote is your power. It allowed for individuals to explore the history of voter suppression and understand their voting rights. It gave non-partisan information about November ballot proposals, showed a related film, and provided a space for a conversation about voting rights. More than 60 people attended. Vote 411 also had a table with informative handouts and helped individuals register to vote.
Additionally, Lab member Kara Anderson created a Voting Toolkit to help students and community members exercise their right to vote. It includes useful information and resources to help individuals maneuver the registration and voting process so that one can feel prepared for Election Day. The toolkit was passed out at the event and can be viewed in our Advocacy Toolkit.
