LGBTQIA+ rights are human rights. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, pansexual, asexual, two-spirit, and all other persons are entitled to dignity and rights. June is Pride Month, and it is a chance to celebrate victories, love, acceptance, and diversity, while also honoring the many it has taken to get here. It is important to remember those who have fought for LGBTQIA+ rights, and those continuing that fight. This country, this world, has come a long way toward recognizing LGBTQIA+ rights but there is still a long way to go. Let us be inspired by human rights defenders and learn from their stories. Let us use the stage they have helped build to fight for more justice to move us closer to equality. Let us hope for and work toward a future where all human rights are realized. One individual who holds strongly to this hope is Czeslaw Walek, a defender of LGBTQIA+ rights who you can read about in our gallery of human rights defenders.
